Custom Dental Crowns
Crowns are an essential dental treatment utilized to preserve teeth that have been exposed to wear, fractures, or excessive decay.
Sometimes referred to as "caps," crowns cover your tooth's entire surface, up to the gum lines. Their durability adds strength to your tooth, so that you can continue enjoying your favorite foods without the risk of additional damage to your bite, while also protecting your natural root.
Why Do I Need a Crown?
If our dentists have recommended a crown for you, it is likely that you are in one of these situations:
- You have a tooth that has been compromised with deeper decay than a filling can repair.
- You have a tooth with a large crack, fracture, or break.
- Your tooth has been treated with root canal therapy and needs to be strengthened with a crown.
- You have an old restoration that needs to be replaced.
A crown is often the best restorative option for your tooth because it protects its integrity without compromising esthetics.
What Is the Process for Getting a Crown?
Depending on the type of crown that you choose, the treatment is typically broken up into two separate appointments. The first visit involves prepping the tooth and taking an impression, and the second allows for the customized crown to be bonded into place. You will wear a temporary crown while your new restoration is being hand crafted at a top dental laboratory.
An exception would be one of our same day crown treatments, which are made on-site and delivered in just one appointment. This allows you to leave our office the same day with a fully functioning and esthetically appealing restoration. Your Brooklyn dentist will assess which type of crown will be the best for your needs.
Maximum Esthetics and Strength
At Williamsburg Smile Design, we utilize durable materials and implement techniques to enhance both your tooth's appearance and health. In most cases, Zirconia or Emax crowns are recommended, especially on teeth that are located further back in the mouth and exposed to greater biting forces.
Porcelain materials can be custom blended to match your teeth and offer a more natural appearance for teeth that are closer to the front of your smile. Porcelain is durable and capable of lasting for many years as well as being esthetically appealing.
If you have a tooth in need of repair, it is important that you don’t delay your treatment in order to protect your tooth from further damage. Contact Williamsburg Smile Design today to learn more about our traditional handcrafted or one-visit crowns.
